He was born on October 26, 1927, in Paris, as a child in care.
He actively participated in the Second World War battles, first as a very young Resistance soldier, then as a combatant of the Internal French Forces (FFI) within the Pommiès Corps Franc. He equally fought in Alsace and Germany within the 1st Army.

He subsequently fought in Indochina, as commander of Commando 24, '' The Black Tigers'' , where he was caught up in the heart of the most deadly confrontations, particularly in North-Vietnam.
