National Anthems
Morocco
The music of Hymne chérifien was composed by Captain Léo Morgan, the Royal Guard bandmaster.
This piece became the national anthem of Morocco in 1956, the last year of the French protectorate which had been entrusted to Field Marshal Liautey. The lyrics were written by Ali Squalli Houssaini, in 1969, at the request of HM King Hassan II.

The Hymne chérifien calls for peace, fraternity and the uplifting of the soul.
The red colour flag, embellished with a green 5-branch star, was adopted in 1915.
It is that of the Alaouite dynasty in power since the XVII century. A green five-branch star shines from its centre. This same star features on Moroccan weapons, between two lions.
The motto of Morocco is: “God, The Homeland, The King”.
