La Quête, drawn from the 1968 musical comedy L'Homme de la Mancha, was released in 1988 under the title Jacques Brel Intégrale. The original title of the work is “The impossible Dream" drawn from the musical comedy "Man of la Mancha" which Brel adapted into the French language.
The song recounts the adventures of Don Quixote, a wandering knight, who loved beautiful Dulcinea. Always on the move and never stopping to rest, Don Quixote goes about riding his faithful Rocinante in the company of his loyal manservant Sancho Panza and tilting at windmills in a magnificent though pathetic quest to reach an unreachable star...
Late lamented Jacques Brel, great author, composer, actor, director and performer, was born in 1929 at Schaerbeeck, Belgium, and died in 1978, at the age of 49. He was buried at the Atuona cemetery, in the Marquezas Islands, not far away from Paul Gauguin’s grave.
