The song Les divorcés, released in 1970, was composed by the writer-composer-performer Michel Delpech.
The title encapsulates the message. It expresses the feelings of a man who, against his will, is forced to divorce his wife, who wanted to leave him, obviously, for another man. The poor, kind-hearted husband was obliged to make necessary arrangements to minimize separation damages, though not without having attempted one last time to convince the woman to change her mind, since he still loved her.
The author gives a finesse shot to the lawyers and the distressing French judicial system which encourage spouses to divorce, to castigate each other in order to secure judgement that would grant him or her maximum advantages, and such, even if there is mutual consent.
