The song Terra straniera (Foreign land) was released in 1958 in a Vis Radio 45-rpm record. It is credited to Claudio Villa, author and performer of several Italian songs.
The song was dedicated to Italian emigrants who had left their country for greener pastures abroad as jobs were rare in Italy at some periods. Terra straniera is a piece of work which emotively expresses the deep feelings of sorrow and nostalgia that brooded in the minds of these expatriates severed from their roots, far from their family and home and especially, deprived of the endless warm glow radiating from the beautiful charming eyes of the queen of their heart.
Terra straniera has been successfully sung by several artists. The version on this page is that of Luciano Tajoli.
Terra straniera, quanta malinconia !
Quando ci salutammo, non so perché
tu mi gettasti un bacio e fuggisti via,
eppure adesso, te lo confesso,
non penso a te ...
Non li ricordo più quegli occhi belli
pieni di luce calda ed infinita...
Mi son dimenticato i tuoi capelli
