FNCV message of solidarity
Message of solidarity with the R.I.C.M., the 2 nd R.I.Ma. and the 515 th R.T.
Paris , 9 November 2004 ,
It is with profound sorrow that the National Federation of Volunteer Servicemen, like all French citizens, learnt of the recent bloody air raids which hit French troops in Ivory Coast , where they are serving as a peacekeeping force within the framework of operation Licorne.
In keeping with her policy of providing assistance and protection, France opted to send troops to Ivory Coast in a bid to offer assistance to the civilian population, while intervening between the belligerent sides.
Thanks to the courageous action of French troops, within an extremely difficult and risky context, a bloodbath was pre-empted.
The cream of French soldiers, who moved by their sense of duty or a personal decision to serve, sacrificed their lives in the execution of a mission they considered theirs, just like their brothers did in the past when they died for France during conflicts where they had been called up to serve under the French banner.
In this sorrowful circumstance, the volunteer servicemen of France hereby salute the courage and sacrifice of the combatants of the R.I.C.M., the 2 nd R.I.Ma. and the 515 th R.T.. They express their deep sympathy to the unit commanders, officers and soldiers of these regiments, while extending their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
The F.N.C.V. sends words of comfort to the wounded and wishes them a quick recovery.
The National President, Colonel (h) Jacques GAGNIARD
Commander of the Legion of Honour
